Reno, Meadows seized early playoff advantage with home wins

 

 

Former premier league champion Reno FC and Meadows FC drew first blood in the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) National Premier League Playoffs with identical 2-0 wins over Cavaliers and Benfica respectively.
Reno, a former three-times champion and Cavaliers, champions back in 1980 are favourites to be promoted but both faced off in the opening round with Reno grabbing the upper hand in their clash at Frome in Westmoreland.
Sheldon Bryan scored an early goal for Reno, netting in the eighth minute before Tremaine Perry sealed a crucial home win in the 74th minute.
Reno, Western Confed winner, which was relegated last season, moved to three points while Cavaliers, the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association champion (KSAFA) are pointless.

Meanwhile South Central champion Meadows of St Catherine announced themselves in the playoffs blanking the Eastern Confed winner Benfica of St Ann 2-0 at the Ferdie Neita Park.
Jason Vassell opened the scoring in the 35th minute before Ross Burton sealed the win with a 50th minute strike as Benfica’s finished the game with 10 men after Andre Dixon was red carded in the 75th minute Meadows join Reno at the top of the standing with three points in the four-team playoffs while Benfica, which is trying to secure top flight football for St Ann for the first time since 1992 when Black Star was relegated, are at the bottom along with Cavaliers with five rounds remaining.
The playoffs continue on Wednesday with Cavaliers hosting Meadows at Collie Smith Drive and Reno traveling to Drax Hall to play Benfica.
