Harbour View regained pole position after dispatching Tivoli Gardens

Harbour View regained pole position in the Digicel Premier League (DPL) after dismissing defending champions Tivoli Gardens 2-0 at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium yesterday.
Rafeik Thomas in the 51st minute opened the scoring with an unstoppable shot before John Ross-Edwards sealed the win in the 65th minute with a soft shot which should have been easily saved.
It was Harbour View’s second win over Tivoli Gardens this season from three outings and it propelled them to top spot on 60 points with eight rounds remaining.
The Donovan Hayles-coached team are now three points ahead of Tivoli Gardens in what is now a two team race with both teams exchanging leads constantly.

At the Ferdie Neita Park, home team Portmore United all but ended Waterhouse’s title ambition with a 1-0 win while reigniting their hopes of avoiding relegation.
Roen Nelson got the all-important goal in the 20th minute as Portmore United registered their second consecutive win and their eighth overall to climb one spot into 11th on 33 points but are still in the relegation zone.
Waterhouse which have not won since the start of the third round, remained in third spot on 43 points and must be concentrating on next season.

In the Trench Town derby, home team Arnett Gardens were held to a 1-1 draw with Boys’ Town after defender William Richards gave them a third minute lead.
But Shane Edwards had other ideas and earned a share of the points for Boys’ Town in 73rd minute.
Boys’ Town have not won in their last seven games and are static in fifth spot on 41 points and must be careful of the chasing pack in a closely knitted mid-table.
For Arnett, it was two points dropped in their fight to move away from the relegation zone. The Junglist have slipped a spot to ninth on 34 points despite unbeaten in their last five games.

In the late kickoff at Lynch Park in Portland, the visiting Rivoli United stole a win with basically the last kick of the match when Calbert Coke netted in the 94th minute.
St Georges which was suffering their fourth home loss, missed a glorious chance to climb into third spot but instead remained in fourth with 42 points.
Rivoli, under new manager Oneil Thomas, was notching their second consecutive win following their 3-2 win over Harbour View last week and the Spanish Town-based outfit climbed into sixth spot on 36 points on goal difference.

Meanwhile Village United joined Rivoli on 36 points after defeating Humble Lions 2-1 at the Effortville Community Centre.
Captain Troy Smith gave Village a 26th minute lead from the penalty spot before Dino Williams doubled the advantage in the 73rd minute.
Smith, who plays at left back for the Trelawny club, was notching his eight goal of the season and his third from the spot. Village United.
The bustling Omondo McCleod scored a consolation goal for Humble Lions in the 89th minute but too late was their cry.
Humble Lions from Clarendon which was losing their seventh home game from 14 matches, slipped two spot to eighth on 34 points.

At the UWI Bowl, August Town edged Sporting Central Academy 1-0 in a crucial relegation battle.
Nicholas Smith with his second goal of the season pushed August Town to their eight home win and their ninth overall but remained in 10th spot on 34 points.
Sporting Central, the second Clarendon club in the DPL was slumping to their 12th defeat of the season and have not won in their last eight games.
Sporting under new coach Vassell Reynolds, are rotted to the bottom of the league on 30 points and will take some doing to stay in the league for next season.
But all is not lost as they are only six points adrift of the sixth-placed team in a closely knitted mid table.
