CLARO ~ Round Twenty Wrap-Up

Cavaliers lose as Claro Super League thrown wide open

Super League

The Claro KSAFA Super League was thrown into a four-team race after leaders Cavaliers crashed 1-2 to Duhaney Park while both Meadhaven and Maverley/Hughenden were relegated.

Only six points separates first Cavaliers (43) from fourth-placed Mountain View (37) and both teams will meet in a rescheduled game. So in essence, that six-point deficit could be cut to just three if Mountain View win.

As the league currently stands, Cavaliers are on top with 43 points just one above Rae Town on 42, Santos with 41 and Mountain View on 37 with two rounds remaining.

At the Spring Complex, goals by Damion Waite and Earl Roberts in the 54th and 69th minutes provided Duhaney Park with the upset win over Cavaliers.

Loxley Thompson pulled one back in the 74th minute but there would be no late heroics from the black and white-clad Cavaliers.  Duhaney Park which inflicted only the second defeat on Cavaliers, climbed a spot to eighth on 22 points.

At the Bull Pen, Rae Town took an early lead courtesy of a James Durrant strike in the 19th minute but had to settle for a 1-1 draw with lowly Bull Bay and dropped two crucial points.

Rae Town failed to capitalised on Cavaliers’ slip up and must be ruing the opportunity to regain the lead after Andrew Cockburn tied the game in the 48th minute.

Rae Town stayed second on 42 points while Bull Bay inched away from the relegation zone, staying 10th on 19 points. They are seven ahead of Meadhaven and are safe with two games remaining.

Meanwhile Santos clipped Meadhaven United 1-0 and closed within two points of the leader while condemning Meadhaven to the Major League next season.

Fabian Nethersole got the winner in the 68th minute for his 14th goal of the season to be joint second behind Damion Jackson of Rae Town with 17.

Meadhaven which played premier league football last season has been relegated for the second time in two seasons. They remained on 12 points, seven adrift of Bull Bay and with two rounds remaining are relegated.

Maverley/Hughenden  which was relegated from last week suffered a 0-2 loss to Real Mona. It was their 17th defeat in 20 games including one win.

Alfred Nelson in the 50th and 85th minutes provided Real Mona with their sixth win as they consolidated seventh spot on 24 points.

At Barbican field, Troyland Williamson netted in the 46th minute for his 14th goal of the campaign as Mountain View edged Barbican 1-0.

It was a crucial win for Mountain View as it kept their slim title hopes alive and brought them to within six of the leader Cavaliers who they are set to play in a rescheduled game.

Mountain View with their 10th win moved to 37 points while Barbican slipped a spot to be ninth on 20 points.

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) defeated Constant Spring 2-1 at the Up Park Camp to consolidate fifth on 34 points.

Goals by Kevin Mitchell and Marlon Ellis in the 46th and 52nd proved too much for Constant Spring for who veteran player Denzil Mitchell netted on the stroke of half time

Major League

Leaders Central Kingston failed to capitalised on the drawn game between the second and third-placed teams and had to settled for a 0-0 draw.

Central Kingston moved to 37 points while climbed a spot to seventh on 20 points.

In the feature encounter Rockfort and Police Nationals battled to a 1-1 draw at the Edward Seaga Stadium. Both teams missed a great chance to close the gap on the leader.

Rockfort stayed second on 35 points while Police are a further four points behind on 31 but slipped a spot to fourth. Howard McKenzie netted for Police in the 13th minute before Leon Maduro earned a share of the points for Rockfort in the 37th minute.

With the top three teams all failing to win, the University of the West Indies (UWI) grabbed the opportunity and moved into third spot on 32 points after blanking Molynes United 5-0.

Mikhail Hewitt scored twice in the 20th and 57th minute and was ably supported by Oneil Fairweather in the 32nd, Andre Bernal 65th and Nigel Brown 79th.

David Stultz stole the show with a hattrick in Greenwich Town’s 3-0 win over Swallowfield.

Stultz netted in the 32nd, 47th and 72nd minutes taking his tally to 12 and on top of the goalscoring chart ahead of teammate Ricardo Monroe with 10.

Greenwich Town consolidated fifth spot on 27 points while Swallowfield remained rooted to the bottom on five points and odds on favourites to be relegated to the Syd Bartlett League.

Kemar Haynes scored in the 88th minute as Whitfield Town edged Olympic Gardens 1-0 and moved into eight spot on 20 points.

Olympic which was suffering their 12th defeat from 17 games and stayed second from bottom with nine points and looked set to join Swallowfield in the lower division next season.
