Rae Town and Constant Spring remained joint
leaders of the KSAFA Claro Super League after playing to a 1 – 1
score in their third round fixture today. They were joined on
seven points by Santos and Mountain View who both scored
victories over Cavaliers and Meadhaven United respectively.
Constant Spring playing at home looked to
capitalize on that advantage as they pressed their opponents
from the opening whistle and was awarded a free kick on the edge
of Rae Town’s penalty box after goalkeeper Navaro Crooks stepped
out of the box and picked up the ball.
The resulting kick proved futile however, but
Constant Spring kept up the pressure and were gifted a goal,
when Crooks fumbled a back header from his central defender and
Fabian Cooke ran on to kick into an empty goal from 10 yards.
Despite the goal, Constant Spring continued to
mount pressure on a Rae Town team that had looked a shadow of
the team that handsomely won their two (2) previous encounters.
Spring should have added another goal, when forward Narado Prawl,
outsprinted a defender, rounded the advancing Crooks in goal,
then kicked into the side netting of an empty goal right on the
stroke of halftime.
The Rae Town team came out looking a more
purposeful team in the second half and mounted several attacks
on a Constant Spring team that seem content to soak up the
pressure and try to hit their opponents on the counter-attack.
This tactic almost paid-off for them as Prawl
again out sped his marked and with a clear shot on goal kicked
over the crossbar from 12 yards. Rae Town’s fluent passing game
improved and they were rewarded in the 52nd minute
when Hughall Lawson equalized with a header from a right sided
cross, for his third goal of the season.
After the goal Rae Town were the more dominant
team, however, neither team really came close to securing a
winner despite utilizing their full slate of substitutions. The
game ended 1 – 1, leaving both teams unbeaten and on seven (7)
points.
In other results yesterday Cavalier also lost
their 100% record after goals from Peter Gordon in the 16th
minute and a penalty from Fabian Nethersole, propelled Santos to
a 2 – 0 victory over them. The victory pushed Santos to seven
(7) points and joint 1st place with the early
leaders.
Also joining Rae Town, Santos and Constant Spring
on seven (7) points was Mountain View with their 0 – 1 away
victory over home team Meadhaven United. Ryan Douglas got the
winner for Mountain View in the 9th minute and the
lost was the third consecutive one for Meadhaven.
Duhaney Park with goals from Michael Brown (35th),
Omar Williams (55th) and Orlando Barrett (76th)
bounced back from last week’s defeat to Santos to score a 1 – 3
defeat over Marverely / Hughenden at Marverely. Damion Stephens
(81st) got Marverely’s consolation goal and it was
also their third defeat from as many games.
The two other games ended in draws as Bull Bay
got their first point of the campaign after a 1 – 1 draw at Real
Mona. Bevill Grossett (33rd) gave Bull Bay the lead
before Haldane James (74th) struck to earn the home
team a share of the points.
In the final game of the round, it ended goalless
between the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Barbican at Up Park
Camp.
