Santos draw closer to leaders with win over Real Mona
Super League
Fabian Nethersole netted twice as Santos defeated Real Mona 2-1
and inched closer to the leaders in the Claro KSAFA Super
League.
Nethersole scored in the 24th and 49th minutes for his 12th and
13th goals as Santos secured their 12th win and moved to 38
points.
They remained in third spot and are just three points behind
leader Rae Town and two behind Cavaliers, both of which will be
meeting on Wednesday.
Duane Weise had levelled the scores for Real Mona in the 46th
minute but was not enough from preventing them from suffering
their eighth loss and stayed seventh on 21 points.
At Duhaney Park Field, Mountain View eeked out a narrow 1-0 win
over the home team courtesy of an Andre Palmer 43rd minute
strike as they continue to cling onto the fourth spot.
The East Kingston team with their ninth win moved to 34 points
and although they cannot win the league, are trying to finish as
high as possible.
Duhaney Park which was losing for the second time in their last
three games, slipped a spot to ninth with 19 points.
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) scored the biggest win of the
round whipping the hapless Maverley/Hughenden 3-0 at Up Park
Camp.
Robert Wright grabbed a brace in the 26th and 50th minutes
before turning from hero to zero after picking up a red card in
the 90th minute.
Damion Brown netted the third for the Marching Men in the 70th
minute as Junior Beacon also saw red for Maverley in the 53rd
minute.
The JDF stayed fifth and on the shoulder of Mountain View with
31 points following their eighth win of the season.
Maverley, whose community is torn by violence, look set to be
relegated bringing up the rear with five points after suffering
their 16 loss from 19 games.
Meanwhile Barbican climbed a spot into eighth despite battling
to a 0-0 draw with Constant Spring at the Barbican Field.
Barbican inched to 20 points which was enough to leapfrog
Duhaney Park moved to safety from the relegation zone. Constant
Spring remained in sixth spot with 28 points.
Renaldo Lopex probably scored the most important goal for Bull
Bay this season enabling them to turn back Meadhaven United 1-0
at the Bull Pen in a key relegation dog-fight.
Lopez netted in the 75th minute as Bull Bay got the better of
Meadhaven and turned a three-point difference into a six-point
gap.
Had they lose, Bull Bay and Meadhaven would have been locked on
15 points and with only Maverley behind them it would be a
dog-fight to the end with four rounds remaining.
Instead Bull Bay remained in 10th spot on 18 points and a
significant cushion from Meadhaven which looked set to join
Maverley in the Major Leagues next season.
Meanwhile in a top-of-table clash ,Rae Town and Cavaliers will
meet today (Wednesday) at the Spring Complex in what could be
the title decider.
Rae Town lead the table with 41 points from 18 games, just one
above Cavaliers on 40 from 17 games. The general thought is
that, these are the two best teams and whosoever win today, will
win the league.
