Wadadah held to 2-2 draw by Brazil after giving up late goals

Wadadah and Brazil earned their first point of the 2009 Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) National Premier League Playoff after battling to a 2-2 draw at Jarrett Park in a rescheduled game yesterday.

Home team Wadadah which lost 0-2 to August Town in their opening game, got off to a flying start racing to a 2-0 lead at half time.

Jermie Bucknor scored both goals netting in the first and 31st minutes as Wadadah seemed well on their way to their first victory of the campaign.

With both August Town and Humble Lions on four points from two games, Wadadah were looking to close the gap in the four-team playoff.

But the St Ann’s outfit, Brazil had other ideas. Adain Rattigan pulled one back in the 79th minutes in what seemed to be a consolation goal.

But in stoppage time, the visitors struck as Jermaine green scored in the 90+ minute to earn a share of the points for Brazil.

It was a cruel blow for St James hopeful Wadadah as the fans were left stunned with the last minute equalizer and two crucial drop points at home.

Both teams started the day pointless after losing the first game and was playing catch-up with the top two teams on four points.

With today’s result, both teams are off the mark with one point from two games with Brazil in third with a superior goal difference.

Wadadah, a two-time champion of the premier league, bring up the rear as the pressure mounts for the Western Confederation winner to deliver for a region that is losing its top flight teams to the Super League.

In recent years, Violet Kickers, Seba, Wadadah from St James and now Reno of Westmoreland have all been relegated from the premier league.

As the table stands August Town from Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA), are on top with four points, just ahead of Clarendon’s Humble Lions, also on four but with an inferior goal difference.

Brazil, the Eastern Confederation champion are third ahead of Wadadah, also on goal difference.

The Playoffs continue on Sunday with August Town hosting Brazil at the UWI Bowl while Humble Lions travel to Wadadah.
