CLARO ~ Super Round Twenty One

TITLE RACE FLUNGS WIDE OPEN IN CLARO SUPER LEAGUE

 

The title race in the Claro/KSAFA Super league was flung wide open after four sets of matches played on Saturday.

 

Santos defeated Real Mona 2-1 at Buttercup Park to keep their title hopes alive. Orane Sutherland was the mastermind for the visitors, hitting the net twice in the 56th and 63rd while Real Mona’s consolation came by way of an own goal in the 82nd minute.

 

Santos joins August Town and Cavalier on 43 points, however both teams have a game in hand as their matches against Duhaney Park and Constant Spring respectively were not played on Saturday, due to waterlogged fields. The games are rescheduled for Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. Collie Smith drive will be the host of the Cavalier/Constant Spring encounter while Baldwin Crescent remains the venue for the August Town vs Duhaney Park game.

 

Over at Up Park Camp, Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) trailed Police Nationals 2-0 for the first half through goals from Sheldon Campbell and Ricardo Edwards in the 15th and 23rd minutes respectively. However the army men hit back five minutes into the second half, courtesy of Terrence Shaw and Terrence Jarrett added another in the 68th minute to assist his team to a 2-2 scoreline.

 

Bull Bay came away 3-1 winners over Maverley/Hughenden through strikes from Marlon Henry, Horatio Taffe and Garfield Sutherland in the 30th, 53rd and 59th minutes respectively. Maverley got their goal in the 9th minute, thanks to Leon Patrick.

 

In the relegation battle, Liguanea United had a 1-0 victory over their table rival Mountain View United. Okeele Green was the marksman for Liguanea in the 9th minute.

 

The positions in the twelve team table see JDF in fourth place with 36 points, Bull Bay 32, Constant Spring and Real Mona 28, Maverley/Hughenden 24, Duhaney Park 21, Liguanea United 16, Mountain View 15 and Police Nationals 13.

 

The top placed team in the competition will enter the Jamaica Football Federation’s National Premier League playoffs while the two bottom place teams will be relegated to the Major League.

 

MAJOR LEAGUE ACTION

 

In Major League action, the only match on the day that could be played was the encounter between Central Kingston and Meadforest which the former came away 4-2 winners.  Ricardo Taylor had a brace in the 3rd and 21st and Jermaine Shirley also with a brace in the 12th and 40th minutes were the scorers for Central Kingston. Meadforest’s Richard Brown strikes in the 45th and 60th minutes were not enough for his team.

 

All the other scheduled games were called off due to waterlogged fields.

In the top of the table encounter, Whitfield Town edged Greenwich Town 2-0; Shortwood United brushed a-side UTECH 3-0, UWI clipped I.S.C.F 2-0; while Stony Hill and Allman/Woodford scored 1-0 victories over New Kingston and Pembroke Hall respectively.
